Team Leader Cranes Job

Reports to the Engineer: Support Equipment and Services

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

To supervise and coordinate the function of the Crane sections with a view to manage the operations in area of responsibility to ensure availability, optimisation of cost and resources. Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in erecting and operating machines to hoist and convey machinery and equipment.

Key Performance Areas:

Leads and controls employees who are engaged in all activities concerned with the rigging aspects of the project and mining operations.

Optimize resources (manpower, equipment and materials) to ensure efficient and timely completion of the works.

Ensure adherence to policies, procedures and work practices, and developing improvements where necessary.

Read, interpret and understand specifications, drawings and all other discipline related project and engineering documentation.

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in all rigging and lifting activities to ensure compliance with safety procedures and method statements.

Ensure all employees are familiar with heavy lift plans and procedures.

Specifies locations for movement and erection of derricks, hoists and cranes using knowledge of various methods of sliding and lifting equipment.

Directs crane operators to move equipment to and from work areas.

Reviews and determines mechanical plant/ equipment scheduled maintenance requirements in order to optimize maintenance costs and engineering downtime.

Co-ordinates and directs the overhauling and rebuilding of cranes and other specialized machinery and equipment.

Liaises with other Team Leaders regarding job progress.

Ensures training and evaluation of employees to enhance their performance.

Enforces strict compliance with all Safety procedures including all Company rules and regulations.

Requirements and experience:

Recognized Trade Diploma with 4 technical theoretical subjects (N3/ L3 level) or Grade 12 with 4 technical theoretical subjects.

5-7 Years’ post – apprenticeship experience in the cranes environment of which 3 years should have been on supervisory level.

Sound knowledge of setting up processes and procedures for crane operations.

Sound experience in HSE requirements, while doing any lifting activity and safe operation of cranes.

Legislation, regulations and Codes of Practice relating to lifting duties.

Safe systems of work including method statements.

Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License.
