Namibia University of Science and Technology Master of Sustainable Energy Systems
What is Master of Sustainable Energy Systems?
Sustainable energy can be defined as a form of energy that can be utilized again and again without putting a source in danger of getting depleted, expired, or vanished. From: Comprehensive Energy Systems, 2018.
Entry Requirements
The Master of Sustainable Energy Systems programme seeks to recruit suitably qualified students who are capable of benefitting from, contributing to, and successfully completing the programme. Students will be considered for admission into the programme if they have: • A Bachelor’s degree (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, processing, Agriculture engineering, Chemical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification at NQF Level 8 from a recognised institution, or a pre-NQF professional or any other engineering field assessed by the admission committee and (Applied) Physics or a field closely related to these programmes. • Also other professionals who may prove long term track experience in the energy industry and must have completed Bachelor’s degrees (Hons) in Economics, Social Sciences, Environmental studies, or any equivalent as approved by the admission committee. • Demonstrate proficiency in English communication at post graduate level, as demonstrated by the fact that the undergraduate degree was done in the medium of English. If the undergraduate degree was not obtained in the medium of English, then the applicant will be required to show proficiency in the medium of English through achieving at least band 7 of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or an equivalent. Final selection of candidates will be approved by the Postgraduate Studies Committee.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is sustainable energy engineering?
Sustainable Energy means finding clean renewable energy sources that can be reused and renewed through modern technologies. Think in terms of solar panels, wind and water turbines, geothermal energy, and so on.
Is MS in renewable energy worth?
A masters program in renewable energy is a postgraduate degree program whose aim is to help in meeting challenges facing the world today- production of renewable energy. This program equips students with sound knowledge required to increase the production percentage of renewable energies in the worldwide energy mix.
What do energy managers do?
Energy managers perform audits to evaluate energy use, costs, or efficiency initiatives. They monitor and analyze energy consumption, and sometimes water consumption as well. … They review plans for future projects to determine their feasibility and energy requirements.
Are solar panels really sustainable?
Solar energy is naturally more sustainable than fossil fuel energy sources and is more environmentally sustainable. It converts the sun’s energy into electrical energy and makes use of the greatest, most sustainable resource on the planet, sunlight.
Is sustainability a good career?
Sustainability can lead to many career paths, such as sustainability specialist, environmental engineer, sustainability manager, and sustainability director. These and other job opportunities provide workers with the chance to positively impact the environment, people’s quality of life, and future generations.
Do you need a masters in sustainability?
While grad school certainly isn’t required for a successful career in sustainability, it’s an important path to consider (again, after you’ve worked for a few years): Most professionals working in the field either have a master’s degree or have already had about 10 years of highly regarded work experience.
Why should I study renewable energy?
The combustion of fossil fuels for energy results in a significant amount of greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global warming. Most sources of renewable energy result in little to no emissions, even when considering the full life cycle of the technologies. Renewable energy emits no or low air pollutants.
What is energy management masters?
Master in Energy Management programs are designed to prepare individuals to apply engineering principles and technical skills to help support professionals engaged in the development of sustainable energy-efficient practices.
What is the most complex energy system?
The most complex energy system is the aerobic or oxygen energy system, which provides most of the body’s ATP. This system produces ATP as energy is released from the breakdown of nutrients such as glucose and fatty acids. In the presence of oxygen, ATP can be formed through glycolysis.
Which energy system is the most efficient?
We can find out which one of these renewable energy sources is the most efficient by calculating the costs of the fuel, the production, and the environmental damages. Wind comes out on top by a wide margin over all the other sources. It is followed in order by geothermal, hydro, nuclear and solar.
What energy system breaks down fat?
The aerobic energy system is where we utilize all three of our fuel sources. It is within this system that carbohydrates, fats and proteins may be processed in order to produce ATP. Carbohydrates come through the glycolytic system, producing pyruvate that proceeds into the aerobic system.
How do the 3 energy systems work together?
The energy systems work together to replenish ATP. The 3 energy systems are the ATP-PC, Anaerobic Glycolysis and Aerobic. The energy systems all work together at the same time to keep replenishing ATP. At no point will only one energy system will be used, but there is often a predominant system.
Which energy system is the fastest?
It is the most direct and quickest form of energy production but can only supply enough energy for a short burst intense activity like a maximum weight lift or a 5 second sprint. This system relies on the availability of creatine phosphate, which is in limited supply and is depleted quickly.
How long do the three energy systems last?
The aerobic system is the most utilized of the three. It provides energy for low intensity activities that last anywhere from two minutes to a few hours. Unlike the other two systems, the aerobic system requires oxygen and takes much longer to overload.
Which energy system lasts the longest?
Aerobic glycolysis has a slow rate of ATP production and is predominantly utilized during longer-duration, lower-intensity activities after the phosphagen and anaerobic systems have fatigued. It is important to remember that all three of these systems contribute to the energy needs of the body during physical activity.
