Conference Background
BOLESWANA is a research body composed of sister education research associations from Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland, Namibia, and the new addition, South Africa. This body of international educational research associations holds a biennial symposium that is hosted, on a rotational basis by member associations. The Namibia Educational Research Association (NERA) is hosting the 17th edition of this symposium in July 2017, in Windhoek, Namibia. BOLESWANA symposia bring together experts from the SADC region, Africa and beyond, to share knowledge, experiences and scientific evidence on educational matters. The Symposium is therefore a platform for sharing, reflecting and setting agenda for education improvement.
BOLESWANA 2018 Conference objectives:
Within the context of the Conference theme, the objectives of the 17th BOLESWANA Symposium are, inter alia, to:
- Foster the transformation of teacher education to be responsive to equity and relevance
- Promote the attainment of SDG 4 with the focus on quality of and equity in education
- Stimulate a culture of innovation in education to meet the challenges of teacher demand
- Strengthen the relevance of education to the needs of the 21st century
Expected Outcomes of the Conference
- An informed understating of strategies to attain SDG4 under existing constraining financial circumstances
- An improved understanding of the practice of research-based teacher education
- In-depth understanding of issues influencing teacher demand
- Capacity building through sharing of lessons from a variety of contexts
- Better understanding of the need to transform education and respond to the needs of the 21st century

Conference Registration
The conference fee covers admission to the conference, tea/coffee, refreshments, lunches, and a gala dinner. Conference registration will only be processed if accompanied by payment or proof thereof.

Important information before you travel to Namibia
1.Travel and Health Insurance is mandatory–please ensure that you carry with your proof from a reliable insurer from your country. The University of Namibia will not be held liable for medical or travel related costs, while in Namibia.
2.Ensure that your passport is valid for not less than 6 months by the date of your entry in Namibia
3. Participants from North, Central and West Africa, and Central and South America, must ensure that they have received vaccination against yellow fever and must have proof thereof if transiting via South Africa.
4. Applicants from countries that are not exempted from Visa requirements, please ensure that you apply for entry Visa/Business Visas via the nearest Namibian embassy or consular offices. Please request for an invitation letter to attend the Conference from the contact email listed on this conference webpage, to help you with this process.
5. Yellow Fever |
There is no risk of yellow fever in Namibia. The government of Namibia requires proof of yellow fever vaccination only if you are arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever. This does not include the US. If you are traveling from a country other than the US, check this list to see if you may be required to get the yellow fever vaccine: Countries with risk of yellow fever virus (YFV) transmission.
