Programs on offer

PG DIPLOMA IN PSYCHIATRIC NURSING COUNSELING

This program prepares students to work within the mental healthcare setting as a professional nurse, specializing in Psychiatric counseling.  This program also prepares nursing students for admission to a Masters program of study.  This is a stand-alone qualification at Honors degree level.

The mode of delivery of this program is online tuition with a clinical placement component.  A mini-dissertation is required to fulfill the graduation requirements.

Duration:  Minimum of 2 academic years full-time study, or 4 academic years of part-time study.

Total number of credits:  240 credits at NQF level 7.

MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH (MPH)

The stipulations of the General Regulations and Rules apply mutatis mutandis.  The Master of Public Health program is a research program with a number of compulsory modules taught online.  Taught modules weigh 50% of the total number of credits, while the research component weighs 50% of the total number of credits.  Applicants applying for admission to the MPH program must prepare a research proposal submitted with the application for consideration.  Please contact us via email at research@welwitchiauniversity.com for a list of research topics and for the outline of the research proposal.

The mode of instruction of this program is online tuition with research supervision determined on the basis of individual needs.

PHD HEALTHCARE SCIENCES

The stipulations of the General Regulations and Rules apply mutatis mutandis.  The PhD in Healthcare Sciences is a generic PhD program with specilization in any field of healthcare.  The PhD program of study depends on the candidate’s Masters qualification and the PhD research project must base on the prior scientific knowledge gained at Masters level.  Depending on the candidate’s Masters qualification, the PhD program of study will reflect that specialization field.  This is a research based program of study, and there are no taught modules.  Applicants applying for admission to the PhD program must prepare a research proposal submitted with the application for consideration.  Please contact us via email at research@welwitchiauniversity.com for the outline of the research proposal.  WU may request the applicant to submit his/her Masters dissertation in PDF format for consideration of the PhD program of study.

PHD MENTAL HEALTH

The stipulations of the General Regulations and Rules apply mutatis mutandis.  The PhD in Mental Health is focused on specialization within allied mental health professions, i.e. candidates who are not hold professional registration as a Psychologist or a Psychiatrist.  The PhD program of study depends on the candidate’s Masters qualification in Mental Health and the PhD research project must base on the prior scientific knowledge gained at Masters level.  This is a research based program of study, and there are no taught modules.  Applicants applying for admission to the PhD program must prepare a research proposal submitted with the application for consideration.  Please contact us via email at research@welwitchiauniversity.com for the outline of the research proposal.  WU may request the applicant to submit his/her Masters dissertation in PDF format for consideration of the PhD program of study.

Any candidate who wishes to enroll for a postgraduate program, must hold a prior qualification within the related field at the preceding NQF exit level, e.g. for Postgraduate Diplomas, a Bachelors degree is required; for a Masters degree, a Honors degree is required; for a PhD, a Masters degree is required.  Applicants should note that a four (4) year professional degree exits at Honors level, and these candidates are entitled to seek admission to a Masters program of study, without holding a stand-alone Honors qualification.Selection into any of the research programs is based on merit, the preceding program of study and the quality of the research proposal submitted during application.

It is very important to note that candidates will be penalized for poor grammer/spelling within a research proposal.  It is the applicant’s responsibility to have the proposal language edited prior to submission
