INTRODUCTION

The course let you study where and when you want, there are no classes and registrations throughout the year. Our Graphic Designing course prepare you to become an Adobe Certified Associate (ACA) Competition CS 6 (Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Indesign & Illustrator) Certification by Adobe is recognized as an industry asset—an immediate way to communicate your knowledge and gain advanced skills.

Graphic design is the creative planning and execution of visual communication. Students will learn to creating a combination of shapes and forms, words and images, in order to reproduce them in some flat medium (two dimensional – paper, cardboard, cloth, plastic, video, computer, or projection screen, on poster, billboard, or other signage) or in a three-dimensional form (fabricated or manufactured) in order to convey information to a targeted audience

REGISTRATION

Students can register throughout the year. There is however an interval in June where students attend classes that is self-paced computer based training.

MODE OF TRAINING

Our graphic and web design course, was designed to be very flexible accommodate possible students from all different environments. The course is offered at a distance and online learning mode with free 3G dongle as a support tool to enhance your studies. Within the student portal the students is able to contact the tutor via email for any assistance needed on topics regarding your course.

TERMINATION

The ICDL course is a 3 year certification and students that do not finish all modules within the 3 year period will be terminated. Students can however complete this course within a minimum period of a month.

COURSE OUTLINE

By studying Graphic Design students will have a wider horizon in the field of art and will

  • Demonstrate artistic growth by executing a variety of images/ text as images, traditional and contemporary techniques that solve complex design problems using creative thinking and analytical skills.
  • Develop and demonstrate their understanding and skillful use of the elements and principles of visual design (1. conceptual element, 2. visual element, 3. relational element & 4. practical or functional element.)
  • Gain skill to use the digital tools as a powerful means of communication for creation, modification & presentation.
  • Study the works of contemporary artists, designers as well as the masters in the field and discuss and enrich their vocabulary of design.
  • Learn ways to apply aesthetic sensibilities into their works and explore ways to balance between formal theories with practical applications.

 Adobe offers four areas in which to gain certification for entry-level skills:

  • Web Communication using Adobe Dreamweaver
  • Visual Communication using Adobe Photoshop
  • ACA in Graphic Design & Illustration using Adobe Illustrator
  • ACA in Print & Digital Media Publication using Adobe InDesign

 Adobe Photoshop CS6 Course Outline

Adobe Photoshop is a multi-purpose application for creating artwork suitable for both screen and print graphics. It is a primarily used for the creation and manipulation of pixel-based images, for instance in editing high detail photographs. Photoshop can be used for practically anything image related, which includes photo manipulation, image retouching and correction, special effects, digital illustrations or the creation of artwork starting with a blank canvas. Its uses extend from altering a facial expression or body shape, to creating a user interface or buttons for the web.

EXAMINATIONS

How to get certified

  • Student is required to complete the online assessment before he/she can sit for the examination
  • Register for the exam with the IOL Testing Center in Windhoek
  • Prepare for and take the exam

GRADUATION

The Institute for Open Learning graduation ceremony is held annually in October. All students that have completed the ICDL Start or Core certificates are eligible to attend.
