Namibia University of Science and Technology Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering
What is Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering?
Chemical engineering is a multi-disciplinary branch of engineering that combines natural and experimental sciences (such as chemistry and physics), along with life sciences (such as biology, microbiology and biochemistry) plus mathematics and economics to design, develop, produce, transform, transport, operate and manage the industrial processes that turn raw materials into valuable products.
Entry Requirements
In addition to meeting the University’s General Admission Requirements as spelt out in the general rules, candidates must have at least 37 points on the Engineering Evaluation Scale, with a minimum 3 symbol in Mathematics, Physical Science and English at Grade 12/NSSC Higher Level. Only symbols on NSSC Higher Level will be considered for Mathematics, Physical Science and English. If a candidate does not have Physical Science, but has Physics or a “Physics equivalent” subject, the Registrar may upon recommendation from the relevant Head of Department and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, approve registration of the candidate. Holders of a National Diploma (ND) and/or B. Tech. degree in Mechanical Engineering obtained from the Polytechnic of Namibia/Namibia University of Science and Technology is eligible for admission. Depending on the results of an evaluation of equivalence of their qualifications, holders of similar qualifications obtained elsewhere will be considered. OR Candidates must have successfully completed the Introduction to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (InSTEM) Programme offered at the Namibia University of Science and Technology with at least 60 % in each of the following courses: Introduction to Mathematics B (ITM402S), Introduction to Physics B (IPH402S), Introduction to Chemistry B (ICH402S), and English in Practice (EPR 511S). However, a score of 60 % in the above courses will not guarantee automatic entry into the programmes as selection will be based on merit.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering?
Chemical engineering is one of the most broadly-based engineering disciplines. Its field of practice covers the development, design, and control of processes and products that involve molecular change, both chemical and biological, and the operation of such processes.
What is a chemical engineer do?
Chemical engineers develop and design chemical manufacturing processes. Chemical engineers apply the principles of chemistry, biology, physics, and math to solve problems that involve the production or use of chemicals, fuel, drugs, food, and many other products.
Is a BS in Chemical Engineering worth it?
Do I recommend studying Chemical Engineering: Definitely! Chemical Engineers have endless employment opportunities. In addition, there are surveys that show that on the average, chemical engineers earn better than other types of engineer and other science courses graduates.
Which engineering is best for girls?
Computer Engineering is one of the most sought after engineering career choices available to girl students in India. The best part of this course is this, that there is no field work at all. The expansion in IT sector and software revolution in India has also made this course demanding.
Can a chemical engineer become a doctor?
Yes, you can pursue a medical career to be a doctor. You have to take the MCAT exam if you are in the United States and all the best. However, you must have a premed track in Chemical Engineering to be a doctor.
Is chemical engineer a good career?
There are excellent opportunities for chemical engineering graduates; prospects for higher earnings in the profession are good. Work in certain industries, for example, oil and contracting, will attract particularly high salaries.
Is Chemical Engineering a good degree?
It’s a highly practical degree, which will teach you how to work in a range of environments, and across chemistry, mathematics, engineering, and physics. Chemical engineers are also some of the most in-demand graduates in the UK, with some of the best career prospects of any subject.
Is chemical engineering good for a woman?
Talking about chemical engineering, its a very good discipline for girls. There are many department that require girls for their work. Process design, process monitoring, catalysis, modeling and simulation, teaching, research area etc. Are many field in Chemical Engineering where girls are more than boys.
Is Chemical Engineering useless?
No chemical engineering is the not a useless degree. It’s a very useful. It’s use in every process industry, refinery and beverage & liquor industry. Chemical engineering is also called universal engineering.
How happy are chemical engineers?
As it turns out, chemical engineers rate their career happiness 2.9 out of 5 stars which puts them in the bottom 25% of careers.
Are chemical engineers real engineers?
Like all engineers, chemical engineers use math, physics, and economics to solve technical problems. The difference between chemical engineers and other types of engineers is that they apply knowledge of chemistry in addition to other engineering disciplines.
Can chemical engineers work in hospitals?
Chemical engineers working in the medical field can work on pharmaceuticals or perform research into new medical devices and procedures. A career in pharmaceuticals involves finding new medicines and medical solutions to diseases and other medical conditions.
Is civil engineering better than chemical?
With Civil Engineering you will probably spend your time travelling from site to site e.g. Construction sites etc. With Chemical Engineering you will more likely be office based e.g. In the refinery or chemical plant or even working for a bank as a business analyst etc. Ultimately, it’s what you enjoy personally.
What is chemical engineering future?
Chemical engineers are currently working to find new sources for fuels e.g. bio-refineries, wind farms, hydrogen cells, algae factories and fusion technology. These could be applied to fuel space travel. Alternative energies like solar, wind, tidal and hydrogen are going to become increasingly important.
How many years does it take to be a chemical engineer?
Out of all the engineering disciplines, chemical engineers earn some of the highest average salaries. Becoming a chemical engineer generally requires a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, which takes about four years to complete. Additional education, training and licenses can increase employment opportunities.
Is Chemical Engineering in demand?
Chemical engineers continue to be in demand with a job outlook growth rate of eight percent between 2016 and 2026, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Chemical engineering jobs offer a lucrative career path, too.
