Namibia University of Science and Technology Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering

Namibia University of Science and Technology Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering

What is Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering?

Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering programs prepare individuals to apply mathematical and scientific principles to the design, development and operational evaluation of physical systems. Students are also concerned with the flow of matter, such as air and water, and the transfer of heat.

Entry Requirement

In addition to meeting the University’s General Admission Requirements as spelt out in the general rules, candidates must have at least 37 points on the Engineering Evaluation Scale, with a minimum 3 symbol in Mathematics, Physical Science and English at Grade 12/NSSC Higher Level. Only symbols on NSSC Higher Level will be considered for Mathematics, Physical Science and English. If a candidate does not have Physical Science, but has Physics or a “Physics equivalent” subject, the Registrar may upon recommendation from the relevant Head of Department and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, approve registration of the candidate. Holders of a National Diploma (ND) and/or B. Tech. degree in Mechanical Engineering obtained from the Polytechnic of Namibia/Namibia University of Science and Technology is eligible for admission. Depending on the results of an evaluation of equivalence of their qualifications, holders of similar qualifications obtained elsewhere will be considered. OR Candidates must have successfully completed the Introduction to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (InSTEM) Programme offered at the Namibia University of Science and Technology with at least 60 % in each of the following courses: Introduction to Mathematics B (ITM402S), Introduction to Physics B (IPH402S), Introduction to Chemistry B (ICH402S), and English in Practice (EPR 511S). However, a score of 60 % in the above courses will not guarantee automatic entry into the programmes as selection will be based on merit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is BS mechanical engineering?

The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) is a five-year program that deals with the design, development, installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery, engines, and structures used in industrial, biomedical, instrumentation and transportation systems.

Is a BEng better than a BSc?

BSc has fewer job prospects as compared to BEng. BEng has a wider job prospect as compared to BSc. It mostly takes 3 years to complete the BSc course whereas BEng requires 4 years. Science subjects such as botanical science, chemistry, physics and maths are what BSc mainly focuses on.

Which degree is best for mechanical engineering?

Mechanical engineers typically need a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology. Mechanical engineering programs usually include courses in mathematics and life and physical sciences, as well as engineering and design.

What is the meaning of Bachelor of Engineering?

A Bachelor of Engineering (abbreviated as BE or BEng) is a first professional undergraduate academic degree awarded to a student after three to five years of studying engineering at an accredited university.
