The Chancellor’s Golf Day is an annual event arranged by the UNAM Foundation (UF). Since its inception in 2010 it has grown in numbers, from 5 teams participating in 2010 to 14 teams in 2017.

This year’s event is booked for Friday, 10th August 2018 at is Windhoek Golf and Country Club.

The purpose of the event is twofold: to network and “raise” new friends of the University of Namibia, and to raise funds for the Students Hardship Fund, a discretionary fund to assist students with emergency expenses related to their life of study at the institution. To date, a total of N$187,539.06 has been raised for this Fund from the Golf Day alone.

The 2018 event is proposed to run two parallel events – participation in 18 holes of golf for those who know and love the game and have established handicaps; and participation in a “golf clinic” where interested participants are taught the basic rules of golf and can practice their newly taught skills on the driving range as well as the first three holes of the golf course. Of course, there is no restriction on golfing newcomers wishing to join a more experienced team and play the full course.

The format of the game will be a 4-ball alliance, i.e. 4 players in a team, with 2 scores to count, i.e. best 2 scores out of the 4 players is entered on the score-sheet. It will be a shotgun start, meaning that all teams commence playing at the same time, teeing off at different holes on the course.

All participants will arrive at around 11h00 in the morning and enjoy a light brunch. The full course players will tee off at 12h00. The golf clinic participants will benefit from a one-hour lesson on the game of golf, whereafter they will proceed to the driving range and try out their newly-learnt skills. All participants are anticipated to end at more or less the same time, i.e. within an hour. It is anticipated that prize-giving will be around 17h00.

Prizes will be awarded to participants in both categories. All participants will receive their complimentary golf-shirt, their midday snack and refreshment, and a light meal after the event. Green fees and golf carts are included in their registration fee.

Indeed, this year will be a FUN-raiser, with the social satisfaction of having supported a very worthy cause!
