UNAM Psychology Programme
Overview
You are welcome to the Psychology Section at Human Sciences Department, a friendly section with reputation for excellence in teaching, research and support for students. Psychology as a field is dedicated to the scientific study of mental processes and behaviour through observing, interpreting, and recording how people and other animals relate to one another and the environment. We offer two distinct degrees: Bachelor of Psychology (B. Psych.) and Bachelor of Art (Psychology) with focus on Clinical Psychology. The Section also offers a taught Master’s degree in Psychology which has a strong research component.
From the second year, students can choose to continue their study in Bachelor of Psychology (B. Psych.) while at the third year students in the BA programme, can opt for single major in Clinical or Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
Our undergraduate program prepare student for diverse career paths such as: psychology counsellor, school counsellor, business associate, human resource officer, customer care officer, in addition to employment opportunities in management, education, public sector service, sales and marketing. It also prepares student for graduate study in any area of psychology (including training to be a clinical psychologist, industrial/organizational psychologist).
Bachelor of Psychology Programme Course
Overview
The Section of Psychology offers both Clinical Psychology and Industrial Psychology, thus training students to directly work with clients and patients in these fields of psychological need. Students are trained to work with clients and are given the opportunity to take up internships in order to gain first-hand experience in their fields of study, whether they aspire to be clinical psychologists or industrial psychologists.
Introduction:
The purpose of this programme is to:
- deliver a comprehensive education in psychological knowledge
- give special emphasis to a general basic psychological foundation
- enable graduates to deal with the demands of the different fields in psychology, such as clinical and industrial psychology
- equip graduates with the knowledge to enable them to assess the psychological needs of individuals, groups, communities and organisations
- enable graduates to provide appropriate psychological interventions or to refer these client systems to other
professionals - equip students with the knowledge and skills required for an internship in either industrial psychology or clinical psychology
- equip students with the fundamental knowledge and skills required for the professional accreditation examination of the Council for Social Work and Psychology

Requirements:
Students who intend to graduate with a BPsych degree are require
d to register for a Bachelor’s degree programme that allows them to study Psychology at the first and second year levels (e.g. the BA programme). This entails that such students follow the normal programme for said Bachelor’s degree up to the end of the second year level, by which time they should have passed all first and second year level Courses in Psychology plus the required Courses in the other subjects that make up said programme up to second year level.
Students who comply with the above requirements will undergo a selection process at the end of the second year of study.
Notes:
- A maximum of fourteen (14) candidates will be admitted to the BPsych programme per intake.
- The BPsych programme will only be offered if a
minimum of ten (10) admitted students have registered.
Curriculum Structure:
The BPsych degree is a specialised professional qualification with a fixed prescribed curriculum from the second year level onwards, consisting of a total of 36 Courses (544 credits) at the various year levels, including the University Core Curriculum Courses at first year level and the first and second year level Courses of the Bachelor’s degree programme taken prior to admission to the programme, all of which a student must pass in order to graduate.
