What is Master of Science in Economics?

The Master of Economics (MEcon or MEc) is a postgraduate master’s degree in economics comprising training in economic theory, econometrics, and/or applied economics. The degree is also offered as an MS or MSc, MA or MCom in economics; variants are the Master in Economic Sciences (MEconSc), and the Master of Applied Economics.

Entry Requirement:

  • A candidate must have a Bachelor of Economics or an equivalent degree from UNAM or any other recognized institution of higher learning at the NQF level 8 or equivalent.
  • A candidate must have a minimum of a Lower Second Class degree.
  • All applications will be reviewed and shortlisted by a committee of the Department of Economics at UNAM.
  • Prospective students may be interviewed by the Departmental Committee if deemed necessary.
  • The Postgraduate Committee will determine eligibility of a candidate and make recommendation to the Registrar’s Office for admission.
