Windhoek Vocational Training Centre (WVTC)

There are a large number of training programmes to choose from at WVTC. The WVTC prepares young Namibians to become artisans in eleven trades falling into four categories.

FULL-TIME COURSES are offered in diverse areas such as:

  1. Mechanical Trades: Fitter Machinery, Turner Machinist, Boilermaker, Welder and Fabricator
  2. Building Construction Trades: Bricklaying and Plastering, Plumbers and Pipe Fitters, Joiners and Cabinetmaker
  3. Auto Trades: Automechanic
  4. Electrical Trades: Electrical General, Airconditioning and Refrigeration Mechanics, Radio and Television Mechanic

The WVTC prepares skilled artisans in an intensive programme, which provides a sound foundation in theory and practice combined with experience in the working environment. The WVTC seeks to promote the welfare of its graduates through preparation for self-employment and attention to long-term job creation.

THE WVTC PROVIDES MORE THAN JUST A TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR BASIC TRADE QUALIFICATION

Skills training and upgrading courses are offered to anyone who wishes to improve his or her knowledge and technical skills.

1. SKILLS UPGRADING COURSES are offered in diverse areas such as; Maintenance and Fitting Basic and advanced Arc and Gas Welding. Basic and advanced Preventative Auto Maintenance, Wood Machining, Plumbing & Pipe Fitting, Technical Drawing, Bricklaying & Plastering, General Metal Work, Computer courses. Courses are usually conducted after working hours to enable attendance by employed trades’ people from the public and private sectors.

2. BASIC SKILLS UPGRADING
The target group is the general public as well as people who wish to upgrade their basic skills.

3. ADVANCED SKILLS UPGRADING

The target group is employed people in the industry with at least two years experience. A certified copy of a document proving that you meet the minimum requirements will be needed prior to enrolment. Anyone who wishes to improve his or her knowledge and technical skills can enrol for skills training and upgrading courses which are listed under skills upgrading courses. Please take note of advertisements in the newspaper to see when the courses are available.

4. TAILORMADE COURSES
WVTC also render tailor-made courses to meet industries specific demands.
