About Wilderness Safaris
At Wilderness Safaris we believe in creating life-changing journeys and have been doing so for over 38 years. Our purpose today is stronger than ever in our dedication to conserving and restoring Africa’s wilderness and wildlife. Operating in seven countries with over 40 camps, we exist to protect wilderness areas and the fauna and flora they support. We believe that in protecting these areas, and including local communities in this process, we will make a difference to Africa and ultimately the world.
Why a skimmer? The African skimmer is the only representative of its family in Africa and its life cycle requires the existence of pristine ecosystems; places where natural flood cycles are not interrupted by manmade dams, and waters sullied by erosion or pollution. These are the areas that Wilderness Safaris operates in, and where proceeds from safaris are channeled towards funding the conservation of these habitats. The skimmer is symbolic of our commitment to the conservation of pristine and remote wilderness areas.
How it all began
Wilderness Safaris was established in 1983 by a group of individuals who had a dream: to share some of the most remote wilderness areas on the African sub-continent with guests from all over the world, in a way that lightly touched the environment, but left a big imprint on the soul.
The Why of Wilderness
Behind everything we do there is a “why,” a purpose, whether it is conserving endangered species, ensuring the benefits of ecotourism reach the people that live in or near the areas in which we operate, or inspiring positive change in the lives of staff, guests and other stakeholders
