SpecificationThe incumbent needs to provide high-level academic, innovative, enterprising and research-driven leadership focusing on achieving outstanding academic standards in-line with the University’s mission, vision and strategy of the Faculty.
Incumbent will be required to manage the Faculty as a Business Unit in order to become a self-sustainable, viable and resilient business unit of the University. Provide strong academic leadership in delivering quality teaching, research, publications, resource mobilization and community engagement and the development of viable academic programmes which are responsive to the socio-economic development needs of Namibia and Africa at large. The successful candidate will need to make decisions, which optimise the viability and academic performance of the Faculty within the mission, vision and strategy of the University. Incumbents will be part of the University Management and needs to provide high-level academic leadership and effective and efficient management and administration for the Faculty regarding its financial resources, human resources and all academic programmes.
The Executive Dean is responsible for the overall execution of management and leadership of the three (3) Divisions (Academic Affairs; Research, Innovation and Development; and Administration and Finance) at the campus where he/she is stationed, leading the development and overseeing the implementation of the strategic plan in line with the overall University strategy. Developing and implementing effective and efficient governance, administrative and financial structures, fostering an entrepreneurial working culture amongst the staff and students, necessary to advance each component of UNAM’s mission and strategy in line with the institutional values.

The incumbent is responsible to ensure a conducive physical infrastructural environment for innovative teaching, learning and study, groundbreaking and cutting edge research in the Faculty and at the satellite campus.
RequirementsThe candidate should at least be at Senior Lecturer level preferably with a Ph.D. and leadership experience.

A relevant Master’s degree in the field of specialization or MMed or MMed.Vet (e.g. Medicine, Veterinary Science, Nursing, Radiography etc.) following a clinical entry-level degree (e.g. MBChB, BVSc , B.Pharm, BNSc, BChD, BSc Physio etc. or equivalent) from a recognized University.

Registration or registrable with the relevant Namibia Professionals Council as a practitioner as well as a minimum of 10 years clinical teaching experience in the area of specialization.

The candidate must have a good track record of teaching, research and community service in a university environment and a proven track record of resource mobilization.

Evidence of high standards of research, teaching and publications must be provided.

The following key skills are required: leadership, financial, human capital management communication, interpersonal, mentoring, team work, innovation, problem solving, and builder of trust.

At least eight (8) years’ academic experience of which 4 years’ should be at management level.

The successful candidate should be a strong individual who commands the respect of his/her peers, and has outstanding Interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, combined with excellent digital fluency, organising, planning, analytical, fundraising, administrative and managerial skills and an understanding of the national and international roles of universities.
