IUM and CRAN Sign MoU 2018

IUM and the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The MoU stated, among others, that CRAN would contribute and support the aims of IUM by giving students internship/ work integrated learning opportunities to enable students to apply the theoretical knowledge gained during their studies to a practical setting in order to ensure a better workforce for the benefit of the Namibian Society at large.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Kingo Mchombu, Acting Vice Chancellor of IUM who expressed his gratitude to CRAN for partnering with the University to contribute to the education and training of IUM students. He said the University was not only looking forward to internship opportunities, but also opportunities for students to conduct applied research in the areas of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Management, and Human Resources.

Mr. Festus Mbandeka, Chief Executive Officer of CRAN, applauded IUM for taking the interest of its students at heart to ensure that they received the necessary exposure through practice and training. He said CRAN had made it its business to create opportunities for students to be exposed to practice in the working environment and to do research in various areas through an internship programme. Noting that CRAN had also rolled out the internship programmes to other universities in Namibia, he expressed confidence that through this programme CRAN was broadening the learning environment for all practical experience among students with institutions of higher education such as IUM.

Furthermore, Mbandeka pointed out that the MoU was just the beginning of a long lasting partnership that would contribute to IUM and CRAN realising their respective visions as institutions as well as an opportunity that would stretch beyond the internship programme to other areas of collaboration using the respective expertise and knowledge of both institutions.
