IUM Bids Farewell To Outgoing Indian High Commissioner

Professor Kingo Mchombu, Acting Vice-Chancellor of IUM, paid a courtesy visit to the High Commission of India in Namibia earlier this month to bid farewell to His Excellency Tuhin Kumar, the outgoing Indian High Commissioner, who completed his three-year diplomatic term of service.

The purpose of the visit was to thank the Indian High Commission for its valuable contribution and collaboration with IUM over the years through which several IUM students and staff received scholarships for further studies at various Indian universities as well as opportunities for internships in India. Moreover, through the collaboration, IUM and the Indian High Commission worked on several projects and co-hosted events such as, amongst others, the Bhangra Dance Day by a Dance Troupe from India which was held at IUM Main Campus in 2015 as well as the Celebration of India’s Constitution Day and 70 years of its independence which was held in 2016.

The visit thus signified the consolidation of warm and cordial existing relations between IUM and the High Commission.

During the visit, Prof. Mchombu expressed that IUM was still keen to continue working with the High Commission in different areas and to establish further partnerships with Indian Universities through the High Commission.

On his part, H.E Tuhin said that the Indian High Commission would continue to work together and develop cooperation programmes with IUM for the benefit and mutual advancement of the two institutions even after his departure.

The visit concluded with the presentation of gifts by Prof. Mchombu as a token of appreciation from IUM.
