UNAM Gigantic Partnership
Two of the country’s largest public institutions, UNAM and NBC signed an MOU this week that will strengthen cooperation between academia and the public. The MOU mainly targets the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS),but intends to partner in all academic disciplines offered by the university.
“We want to tap into aspects of research”, said NBC Director General,Mr Stanley Similio, during the signing ceremony held in the UNAM Vice Chancellor’s office. Further explicating that the NBC, with this MOU, hopes to gain access to UNAM research and disseminate it to the public. “If we could tap into that prior unreached research, it will be a major milestone”,added Similo.
UNAM Vice Chancellor, Professor Kenneth Matengu, praised the initiative. He stressed that, although the MOU was initially earmarked to enhance cooperation between the NBC and the FHSS’s media and journalism students, he stressed that it should not be limited to that faculty. Instead, the faculty should be a tool through which the NBC can gain access to research in all other disciplines.
A cornerstone of the MOU are internships to UNAM students in the area of broadcasting, media and journalism. In addition, UNAM Radio will also be added to a digital bouquet containing NBC stations.
