Welder

A vacancy exists for a Welder in the Support Equipment section of the Mining department. The successful incumbent will be responsible for welding, modifying and inspecting structural components / machinery and equipment in compliance with Rio Tinto health, safety and environmental standards.

Key performance areas

∙Maintaining health, safety and environmental standards.

∙Repair, weld and/or manufacture structural components, machinery and equipment.

∙Maintain / modify structural components/ machinery and equipment.

∙On the job training of apprentices and assistants.

∙Supervision of subordinates, apprentices and assistants.

∙Communication.

∙General duties as required.

Minimum qualifications

∙Grade 12, with Mathematics and Science and an E-symbol in English;

∙NTC II with three subjects and a pass in Trade Diploma/Certificate; OR

∙Level III Welding and pass in Trade Diploma/Certificate;

∙Trade Diploma/ Certificate;

∙Four years’ experience in welding trade including apprenticeship training; and

∙Valid code BE driver’s licence.
